Iceland is a Nordic country situated inin the insular European North Atlantic Ocean. The country has a population of about 320,000 inhabitants and a total area of 103,000 km ². Its capital and largest city is Reykjavik, whose metropolitan area is home to nearly two thirds of the national population. Located in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Iceland is a volcanic and geologically very active, which sets its landscape. The interior consists mainly of a plateau characterized by sand fields, mountains and glaciers, while many big glacial rivers flow to the sea across the plains. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Iceland has a temperate climate relative to its latitude and provides a habitable environment.
